Considering 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training? Here's What You Need to Know
Attend our Info Session Thursday, May 2nd at 7 PM (cst)
Last week, we unveiled the launch of our 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher training, prompting Bradshaw and me to reflect on our experiences pursuing further education in yoga. Today, I want to delve deeper into the purpose and benefits of the 300-hour yoga training format, tailored for teachers seeking to advance their knowledge, skills, and practice beyond their initial 200-hour education.
What are the reasons for seeking additional education in yoga?
For many teachers, the journey doesn't end with the first certification because there's just so much to absorb in such a limited time. During the last several years of mentoring yoga teachers with 200-hour certifications, the number one feedback I've received is that their initial training lacked crucial information on various topics. Sometimes, these gaps are too significant to bridge alone, and that's where the 300-hour path comes in. If you find yourself craving more knowledge in a specific area or feeling insecure in certain aspects of your teaching, you might be ready for the next step.
Imagine feeling like you're floundering or making things up as you go after your initial training, or realizing that after some time teaching your knowledge only scratches the surface. It's okay to feel this way, and both Bradshaw and I could relate. It's a sign that you're ready to grow and be the best you can be. The 300-hour format offers a structured path to address these challenges, plus so much more.
How did we determine whether or not we were ready to pursue a 300-hour training?
For Bradshaw, one of the key benefits of advanced training was reducing burnout by reigniting his passion and enthusiasm for teaching. He learned to manage his workload and streamline his offerings. 300-hours can be like rediscovering the spark that ignited your yoga journey in the first place. By becoming a student again, you refresh your skills, advance your knowledge, and uplevel your qualifications, all while refreshing your perspective and approach to yoga.
For me, I felt the need to connect deeper to the roots and culture of yoga. I enrolled in a Bhakti 300-hour training that equipped me with knowledge of the sutras, major epochs, and mythology. I learned to play the harmonium and chant, filling up my cup with something irreplaceable. Although I didn’t incorporate those teachings into my practice, I sought out a second training to refine my sequencing and advance my anatomy knowledge. It was during this training that I met Bradshaw, and our partnership not only changed my life but greatly improved my teaching.
What unexpected advantages might come from pursuing further training?
My partnership with Bradshaw sparked our yoga school, podcast, retreat business, and a lifelong friendship that I can’t put a price on. The connections made during these programs can truly be invaluable. Even when I moved, I found myself with new local connections across the country because of my 300-hour experience. In addition to the numerous benefits of enhancing skills and knowledge, my network expanded significantly. Many individuals I encountered during training frequently appear as guests on The Funny Thing About Yoga. Moreover, obtaining the 300-hour certification empowered Bradshaw and me to establish our own school and conduct training sessions independently, proving to be incredibly practical.
What steps can you take to discover the ideal program for your needs?
Research is key. Consider what you need from a training and ensure that the program aligns with your goals and interests. Attend information sessions, ask specific questions, and lastly remember, not all 300-hour programs are created equally. Its pivotal that you know what you are seeking out of a training and find that.
At the end of the day, ongoing learning is an essential part of the yoga journey. It's about embracing growth, challenging yourself, and deepening your connection to the practice while staying on top of the latest information and holding yourself accountable as a student first. So whether you're a seasoned teacher needing to uplevel skills or a newer teacher still building confidence, consider taking the next step in your yoga journey.
